Under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, the incumbent will be expected to perform all types of venous access procedures and capillary collections on all ages of patients; prepare all types of laboratory specimens for submission to a reference laboratory or for testing in-house; and may perform waived test procedures. Follows strict protocols to ensure accuracy in the specimens collected, processed, and/or tested. Records and maintains accurate logs of various temperatures daily (including, but not limited to, room temperature, freezer, refrigerator); investigates problems and/or errors that occur within their level of expertise; and assists in the activities to resolve problems and/or errors. Presents a professional and empathetic demeanor when engaging with patients and co-workers.
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, adheres to DMG policy and outside regulatory and professional standards, including CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, etc. Follows all protocols for blood sample processing and other laboratory duties as allocated.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. In addition, a minimum of training in phlebotomy skills is required. Such training may have been achieved through a formal training program or appropriate on the job training. Some computer skills required.
Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
